Trump visits Fed headquarters, urging Powell to cut interest rates.
On July 25, during a visit to the Fed headquarters, U.S. President Trump and Fed Chairman Powell were interviewed by the media. In response to how he would take back his criticism of Powell, Trump expressed hope that Powell would cut interest rates and would follow the committee's interest rate decisions.
Trump also stated that, in general, he would fire a project manager who is over budget. While Trump cited budget data for the Fed's headquarters renovation, Powell kept shaking his head beside him, and Trump mocked that the building renovation is a daunting task.
Trump patted Powell on the back firmly and said, "I hope he lowers the Interest Rate," and then Powell awkwardly smiled.
